Sculpture of a Mingqi, China, Han Dynasty (206 BC to 221 AD)
. Sculpture of a kneeling soldier.
His hands are pierced; he must have carried weapons, probably a spear and a shield.
These elements have deteriorated over time.
Terracotta painted with a polychrome slip (traces).
Mingqi are ritual funerary statuettes representing a court entourage meant to serve or protect the deceased in the afterlife.
Dimensions: 17 x 6 x 5 cm.
