The low, elongated proportions and the continuous teak give this coffee table by Aksel Kjersgaard a particularly serene appearance. The design, dating from the 1960s, features a clean structure, with a refinement that is particularly evident in its construction and finish. The rectangular tabletop is recessed between two rounded crossbars. These crossbars flow seamlessly into the open legs on either side, together forming a powerful, architectural frame. The rounded corners soften the interplay of lines and allow the warm grain of the teak to flow beautifully. Beneath the tabletop are two drawers positioned opposite each other, allowing the table to be used from either of its long sides. The subtle wooden handles are almost flush with the drawer fronts. On the sides, the meticulously crafted dovetail joints are visible—a detail that convincingly demonstrates the Danish craftsman’s skill. The table was fully restored in the Bij de Tijd workshop. The old finishes were removed, and the wood was carefully sanded by hand. The teak was then treated with multiple coats of high-quality matte furniture oil. As a result, the deep, warm color and the natural grain pattern are once again clearly visible, without losing any of the original character. The drawers have also been carefully cleaned and adjusted. They slide smoothly and, like the rest of the woodwork, are in very good condition. Upon purchase, you will receive care instructions and furniture oil, so that the wood can easily be kept in good condition for years to come.
