The houses here are not, in fact, "little." They are all grande dames of the neighborhood as seen through the artist's post impressionistic lens. Some are well over 100 years old; all are cherished and lovingly restored. Interestingly, each sports a bright red door. which caught the eye of the artist.

George loved painting them

The "House on H" Street is a great favorite. The flag comes out every July and November; the white brick dazzles in the sunlight. George plays with shadow and light--bright whites cooled by gray/violet tones.

George employs a "Sargent-esque" palette of strong reds and deep black and white contrasts--tempered by the greens and pastels of the foliage. Very much in the post-impressionist tradition, the drawing is very stylized but captures the essence and charm of this beauty. Thick, thick paint. Flowers are painted in the pointillistic manner--blooms rising above the canvas.

The four paintings in this series all measure 20" x 16" unframed and approximately 25" x 21" with frame. See less
