Standing nearly two feet tall, this expressive figurative carving captures the dignity and strength of everyday life through elongated proportions, beautifully carved facial features, and richly textured surfaces.

The sculpture is carved from an exceptionally dense hardwood with a deep reddish-brown heartwood and contrasting dark carved elements, creating a warm, dramatic patina developed over time. Visible hand-tool marks throughout the piece speak to its handcrafted nature and add to its sculptural character.

The composition is particularly compelling, with the child nestled securely against the mother’s back beneath the head load, making this a wonderful decorative object as well as a meaningful representation of family, resilience, and daily life.
