Renowned street artist Alec Monopoly (born Alec Andon) gained notoriety during the 2008 financial crisis and has ultimately transitioned his art career from rebellious street vandalism to massive commercial luxury. He adopted the "Alec Monopoly" persona during the global financial crash in 2008 and famously covered his face with bandanas and medical masks while in public. By placing a childhood symbol of success and wealth (Mr. Monopoly) into falling economic backdrops, his work successfully bridged the gap between underground urban art and high-end fine art. Over time, he moved into elite fine art galleries like Eden Fine Art and partnered with ultra-luxury brands. He has been named "Art Creator" for Swiss luxury watchmaker TAG Heuer, and collaborated with Jacob & Co. on a $600,000 haute horology timepiece.
Alec's earliest 2008-2011 pieces directly satirized the Wall Street crash and Bernie Madoff. Collectors value these as historical markers of the Great Recession, holding great significance, much like this Wall Street shirt.
This legendary collaboration shirt is an original piece of art on a button-down shirt by Alec Monopoly and the infamous Mike Mozart (“MiMo”). This shirt is so rare because it represents the first time Alec and MiMo met and decided to collaborate on artwork at Alki David’s studio in 2011. This piece has been worn and shown around the world and is signed by each artist multiple times (5 signatures by Alec Monopoly, 4 signatures by MiMo).
This piece was purchased from MiMo personally, and comes with a certificate of authenticity from Bowen Art Reserve LLC.
Alec's works frequently trade in the $20,000 to $500,000 range, drawing extreme interest due to calculated scarcity and historical value.
