Compact and bold, with a strong architectural imprint, they are made using construction techniques and processes, reinterpreted through artisan expertise. The Ardys coffee tables, in glossy lacquered concrete, are available as freestanding pieces as well as elements that can be integrated into the system with an upholstered base. Conceived as a textural counterpoint, the Ardys coffee tables in glossy lacquered cement engage with the softness of the upholstery. In developing these coffee tables, the Cassina Research and Development Centre employed techniques and processes typical of construction, reinterpreting them with artisanal expertise. The top and base are created by pouring a special cement mortar into traditional moulds (formwork) chosen because they leave traces and ripples that become an aesthetic feature of the design. Once the cement has set, the piece is removed and left to dry slowly. Only then is the finish applied through a multi-stage process that accentuates its sculptural character, followed by a final polishing that provides greater protection against micro-scratches. The coffee tables can also be integrated into the sofa system. The lacquered concrete top rests on an upholstered base, creating a module finished on all sides that can be positioned freely in an arrangement or moved as needed.
