A bronze bust with a brown patina, on a black marble base, depicting asclepius, the roman god of medicine.
he has a full beard and a headband in his thick hair.
aesclepius, whose greek name is asclepius, was, according to greek mythology, the son of apollo, raised by the centaur chiron, who taught him medicine. A god associated with divination, healing, and water, he was venerated in epidaurus and athens, but his cult spread throughout the mediterranean basin.
he died, struck down by zeus in anger for having raised people from the dead.
the foundry mark "mechanical reduction a collas patented" indicates that this sculpture was created using the mechanical pantograph invented by achille collas, which made it possible to produce exceptionally high-quality reductions of ancient sculptures.
signs of wear to the patina, some chips to the marble
