In 1965, Jacques Charles created the „Collection Inox" for Maison Charles — the storied Parisian lighting house that had shaped French interior design since the 1930s. Among the pieces to emerge from that collection, none became more iconic than the „Orgue": a sculptural table lamp composed of vertical polished steel or chrome pipes, rising like organ pipes from a cylindrical base, engineered to reflect, multiply, and dissolve light into the surrounding space. It became one of the defining visual references of French 1960s and 70s design.
This piece belongs to that lineage. Attributed to Maison Charles, it presents the full formal language of the Orgue series: a tall, slender cylindrical body in highly polished chrome-plated metal, articulated by six vertical fins with characteristic scalloped petal-form detailing at their junctions. This is the six-pipe version — the more generous and visually more powerful variant compared to the more commonly encountered four-pipe edition.
Six light sockets are arranged in a radial crown at the top, producing a diffused, ambient glow that plays across the chrome surfaces and into the room.
The overall silhouette is architectural and restrained — a lamp that functions equally as a lighting instrument and as a sculptural object.
In very good vintage condition, consistent with age.
