Representing the Allegory of Summer, this monumental architectural fountain is an outstanding example of early twentieth-century Italian decorative sculpture, combining classical inspiration with the elegant stylization characteristic of the Art Deco period. The fountain is centered by a finely modeled high-relief figure of a young woman crowned with ears of wheat, the traditional symbol of abundance and the summer harvest. Below the relief, an expressive fish-head spout projects water into a beautifully sculpted cornucopia-shaped basin, reinforcing the symbolism of fertility, prosperity, and the life-giving power of water. The composition recalls the celebrated sculptural tradition of Renaissance Italian fountains and is closely related in conception to the famous water nymphs of the Fountain of the Innocents (Fontaine des Innocents), combining architectural elegance with refined naturalistic modeling. Executed with remarkable attention to detail, the fountain displays the superb craftsmanship for which Ezio Ceccarelli became renowned. His works successfully bridged the transition between the late nineteenth century and the emerging Art Deco aesthetic, making his sculptures highly desirable among collectors of monumental garden ornament and Italian decorative arts. Presented in excellent preservation, the fountain retains a beautiful aged patina and is suitable for immediate installation in a formal garden, courtyard, or architectural setting. Its impressive scale and sculptural quality make it equally appropriate for interior display in a grand entrance hall or conservatory. A rare opportunity to acquire a museum-quality Italian Art Deco garden fountain by one of the leading sculptors of the period.
