The deeply carved beechwood frame features an … Read more A large and wonderful 19th century Italian carved mirror (probably Venice, circa 1860). The deeply carved beechwood frame features an intricately modeled foliate border running along the entirety of the piece and an outer border of acanthus leaf type carving. In between these borders is a striated green painted border, which serves to highlight the deep relief foliate carvings mentioned previously. There is an inner linen filet, original as well, that frames the glass . Any fading or discolorization on this is consistent with age. The mirror glass itself appears to be newer and not of the vintage of the frame itself. We purchased this mirror on an antique buying trip in England in the mid-1990s for display in our high-end interior design furniture showroom. This piece never sold and remained on the wall in the showroom. No restoration work of any kind was done to this; it is in the original, excellent condition. The wonderful patina of this mirror and the expert deep relief carvings make this an excellent addition to any room and any decor. This piece looks especially important when paired with contemporary furnishings. See less
