A translation … Read more This painted target features a winter stag scene and bullet holes/impacts along with traditional hand-painted script in German. A translation is: Honor or King's Target at the top of the target and the bottom script provides the name of the winner. Painted targets like this have a long history in Germany and were created to commemorate special shooting festivals. Shooting clubs did not always have their own clubhouses and often based their activities out of a tavern or inn. The innkeeper was the central figure in the club and often sponsored prizes or commemorative targets such as this for the winner. These wood targets were intended to be shot at only once during the event and after the competition the target was presented to the winner, in this case Michi Haindl or hung on the club's wall.
