An exceptional original oil on canvas by Burnice Huggins (Dallas, Texas), titled “Drying the Fishing Nets, Nazaré, Portugal,” painted in 1967 during the artist’s travels through Portugal.
The composition captures the iconic fishing boats of Nazaré with their distinctive tall, conical nets drying along the shoreline, set against rolling green hills dotted with whitewashed village homes beneath a luminous sky. Executed with bold palette-knife impasto and expressive brushwork, the painting beautifully conveys the light, color, and atmosphere of Portugal’s famed Atlantic coast.
The reverse retains the artist’s handwritten title:
“Drying the Fishing Nets – Portugal”
