The board is reversible: a chess … Read more A one-of-one chess and backgammon set combining hand-cut Khatam marquetry with turquoise Tazhib-inspired painting.

The board is reversible: a chess surface on one side, a backgammon layout on the other. The chess face is framed in turquoise ornamental motifs and geometric inlay. The backgammon face opens into a more decorative composition of painted medallions and pointed fields. A clear protective resin finish gives the painted and inlaid work its depth.

The Khatam accents are assembled by hand from wood, bone and brass into fine geometric patterns. The contrast between the inlay and the painted ornament is what gives the piece its texture.

Includes a full set of chess pieces, matching backgammon checkers, and a protective hard case (54 x 29 x 9 cm) with handle and locks.

Board: 49.5 x 49.5 x 6.5 cm. Chess playing area: 28 x 28 cm.

This edition is one-of-one. The same design will not be repeated. Part of Pilardi's first collector release.

Condition: new and unused. Any slight irregularity is inherent to hand-made marquetry and hand-painted ornament.

Care: wipe with a soft dry cloth. Avoid prolonged humidity, direct sunlight and heat. Store in its case when not in use.
