During the late 19th century, the geopolitical intersection of Northwestern Persia and the Transcaucasian territories under the Russian Empire created one of the most culturally dynamic centers of tribal textile art in Western Asia. As Russian imperial trade routes expanded across the Caucasus in the 1870s, local weaving cultures synthesized centuries of regional lore into the highly prestigious Soumak tradition. At the absolute apex of this historical convergence lies the legendary "Dragon Soumak"—a celebrated design lineage directly descended from 17th- and 18th-century classical Caucasian Dragon carpets. In this ancient iconography, mythical dragon and phoenix beasts were gradually abstracted over generations into powerful, protective geometric emblems, preserving deep ancestral symbolism and Caucasian heritage within the monumental art of the Russian imperial frontier.

The field is anchored by a monumental vertical axis of three faceted octagonal medallions, each stepped in deep indigo navy and enclosing stylized dragon devices, central solar rosettes, and angular cross-bar motifs. Interspersed between these primary medallions are secondary yellow and ivory geometric cartouches, stepped latch-hook talismans, and miniature botanical devices that weave a continuous, rhythmic cadence across the saturated terracotta field.
