Originating from the historic porcelain studios of Jingdezhen, China circa 1975–1990, this piece brilliantly depicts the narrative scene of the Eighteen Arhats (Shiba Luohan), the primary enlightened disciples of Gautama Buddha. The composition boasts exquisite hand-rendered linework and vibrant, slightly raised opaque enamel garments. Notable iconographic details include the Arhat Who Opens His Heart pulling open his robe to reveal a miniature seated Buddha within his chest, an arhat hoisting a miniature pagoda tower, and the Deer-Sitting Luohan beside a budding plum blossom tree. The upper right corner features an artistic iron-red calligraphy inscription specifying the title "十八罗汉" (Eighteen Arhats), complete with an apocryphal red square Qianlong Reign Studio Mark (乾隆年製)—a traditional homage paid by late 20th-century artisans to the golden age of imperial porcelain. The plaque is securely housed in its original stepped Asian hardwood frame featuring a deep faux-rosewood stain finish. The hardwood frame remains completely structurally sound. The back of the panel reveals a clean, professionally completed contemporary framing overhaul featuring mass-produced commercial plywood backing, heavy-duty Phillips-head mounting screws, and modern plastic-coated braided steel hanging wire for safe home installation. A minor, natural age-related wood drying hairline gap is present at the interior corner joint on the bottom right (as pictured), which does not affect the structural integrity of the frame. less
