This rare antique Avar kilim runner, approximately 120 years old, is a powerful example of tribal design transformed through proportion and repetition.
The composition is defined by ten elongated motifs arranged in a structured sequence—two per row—alternating between black and ivory against a rich red field. The elongation of these traditional forms gives them a distinctly modern, almost graphic quality, while still preserving their tribal origins.
This transformation of scale creates a compelling visual rhythm, where familiar motifs are reinterpreted into something bold and unexpected. The result is an allover design that feels both ancient and strikingly contemporary.
Framing the field is a border set on a deep blue ground, decorated with additional geometric motifs that provide contrast and definition while reinforcing the rug’s strong visual identity.
As a flatweave kilim, this piece is lightweight yet durable, with a crisp, textural quality. Its proportions make it ideal for long hallways or statement spaces where a unique and expressive textile is desired.
This is a rare collector’s piece—distinctive, graphic, and deeply rooted in tribal weaving traditions.
