Rendered … Read more This authentic antique Chinese export porcelain jardinière dates to the late Qing Dynasty or early Republic period (circa 1900–1919). Rendered in the striking Famille Noire palette, the exterior features an exceptionally intricate, densely painted botanical and mythical motif. The central ornamentation showcases a highly stylized Chinese Phoenix (Fenghuang), a legendary bird symbolizing grace and high virtue, surrounded by lush, vibrant pink peonies (representing wealth and honor) and delicate peach blossoms (signifying longevity). The entire design is tied together by an intricate background of continuous green scrollwork (karakusa vines) representing eternity and family lineage.The vibrant motifs are executed with thick, hand-applied vitreous enamels, giving the ornamentation a highly desirable raised, tactile quality against the glossy black ground. Indicative of its early production period, the interior remains completely unpainted and glazed, omitting the common goldfish motifs found in later mid-century reproductions. The top and bottom rims are finished with a classic geometric diaper border (decorative band or field made of small, repeating shapes like diamonds, squares, or lozenges used as an ornamental border or background frame on Chinese porcelain, paintings, and Gothic stonework). It features a clean, unmarked footed base with natural age-toning to the unglazed clay ring. There is no maker's mark (apparently indicative of older pieces).

This piece is in excellent antique condition with light wear consistent with age and use. The inside of this pot shows a clear line where decades of plant care have slightly colored the inside bottom.
