A large circular form suggests the outline of a head, while the central two-tone disc becomes an eye—still, attentive and quietly commanding.

Deep blue, muted green, burgundy, ochre and flashes of red emerge against a warm ivory ground. The restricted palette gives the composition both gravity and intensity, while the irregular surfaces and visible traces of the palette knife soften its geometric structure.
