This artwork is titled "Disorder in the Court" and signed in the lower right by artist, Phil Demise Smith. It is an abstract expressionist style painting featuring a chaotic, vibrant mix of geometric shapes, stylized faces, and outlines reminiscent of a bustling courtroom scene. Paper laid down on foam core.
Demise Smith is trained as a writer, boasting an MFA in poetry from BGSU in 1974, and has been published since 1971. He began writing poetry at the age of 8 and has been a musician since 1973. In 1987, he began painting in his own self-taught style and has had numerous one-man and group shows in the United States and Europe. He developed an art and poetry program for the NY public school system. Demise Smith owns his own gallery in NYC, featuring outsider art from around the world.
