Hand-decorated metal tray top hypnos, son of the goddess nyx in greek mythology, marks the beginning of studio nyx and expresses its concept: an essential object born from the meeting of large-scale design rigour and artisanal material research. Modularity intertwines with the freedom of manual gesture, transforming the table into a living object where every design decision and surface intervention leaves a unique trace. The acid-etched aluminium structure is composed of interlocking elements, with a cross-shaped base and a tray-like metal hand-decorated top. The finishing of the tops forms a bridge between the precision of modular design and the expressive freedom of the material: each piece is unique, marked by chromatic and material variations. The studio’s research focuses on the interpretation of the surfaces: painterly interventions combined with material contrasts becomes a tool for experimentation and transform the matte metal into a balance of sheen, colour and substance, where measured hand gestures generate one-of-a-kind surfaces. Crafted by hand in the studio, each piece carries its own identity, bearing witness to the experimentation that defines studio nyx. Two distinct paths, two sensibilities both kindred and autonomous, find expression in studio nyx, a como-based creative studio. The project emerges from a duality: on one hand, a tactile and intuitive approach to decoration; on the other, the rigorous methodology of architecture. A dichotomy that remains unresolved yet active, becoming the generative principle of the work. The name nyx, from the greek for “night,” evokes the primordial deity from which everything originates — an ancestral presence, capable of containing opposites and generating form. Within the studio, this reference is translated into a pursuit of the essential: simple, almost archetypal forms are reinterpreted through contemporary processes and experimental techniques. The founders, elena and paola, bring together experience spanning craftsmanship and architecture, product design and collectible design. One sensibility focused on colour and surface as expressive fields, the other on structure, function, and construction. In studio nyx, these two directions do not overlap, but intersect, creating a distinctive creative equilibrium. See less
