Poppy Bird explores how quickly we categorise the world through familiar symbols and associations. Naming helps us recognise, but it can also limit what we are able to see. Here, the flower remains open to transformation, becoming something other than itself through the viewer’s perception. Like an image in a dream, the natural form becomes a mirror for memory, emotion and imagination. We do not simply observe the world; we participate in creating its meaning. Rendered in a deep red and sepia-toned palette, the photograph transforms a familiar botanical subject into an ambiguous, dreamlike presence.
