A striking set of six Trix armchairs, designed by Karl-Friedrich Förster for KFF Design in Germany during the late 1980s.
The chairs are defined by their highly architectural construction, combining rigorous grey-finished steel frames with warmly toned plywood seats and backrests. The open structure creates a strong graphic silhouette, while the contrast between metal and wood gives the design a balanced and distinctly postmodern character.
Each chair features a gently curved plywood seat and two separate vertical backrest slats, likewise subtly curved for comfort. The wooden elements extend beyond the surrounding frame and are secured with visible dark fasteners, reinforcing the technical and functional nature of the design.
Particularly distinctive is the folded, stair-shaped metal element beneath the seat. This unusual structural detail connects the seat support to the rear frame and gives the Trix chair its immediately recognisable profile. The square armrests continue directly into the front legs, forming a strong cubic outline around the lighter central construction.
Designed circa 1988, the Trix chair reflects the experimental character of late twentieth-century German furniture design, combining functional construction with expressive geometry.
Presented as a complete set of six, these sculptural chairs are particularly suited to a large dining or conference table and form a striking composition when viewed together. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
designer records,
or other literature sources and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising
