An exquisite mid-century Japanese sterling silver display plate or small tray, retailed by the esteemed silversmiths at Okubo and beautifully hand-crafted by the master artisan Matsuyama. Dating to the mid-20th century (Showa period, circa 1950s–1960s), this piece is a testament to the masterful metalwork of post-war Japan.
This elegant plate perfectly demonstrates the traditional Japanese aesthetic principle of asymmetrical balance. The left side of the rim features a deeply chased and repoussé botanical design—showcasing blooming chrysanthemums (kiku) and textured foliage that extends gracefully into the bowl of the plate. The meticulous hand-tooling catches the light beautifully, contrasting with the smooth, polished surface of the silver.
Perfect as an elegant catchall, a calling card receiver, or a stunning addition to a fine silver collection.

It displays a lovely, authentic vintage patina alongside typical, age-appropriate light surface scratches and minor scuffs from historical use and polishing. These superficial marks are entirely common in vintage silver and can easily be buffed by a professional silversmith if a flawless, mirror-like finish is desired. less
