Authentic Rayen Soffreh rug, hand-woven in the 1960s in the Rayen area of Kerman province, one of the most representative regions of southern Persia's nomadic textile tradition.
Originally used for baking and storing bread, the Soffreh rug is one of the most significant artifacts of Iranian domestic culture. Designed to accompany the daily gestures of family life, today it is appreciated as an extraordinary expression of textile art, capable of combining formal simplicity, compositional balance, and material authenticity.
This piece stands out for the strength of its almost monochrome field, enlivened by a magnificent natural abrash that develops a sophisticated palette of plum, eggplant, and deep purple hues. The slight chromatic variations, due to the traditional wool dyeing and hand-weaving, give the piece a vibrant and unique surface.
The decorative bands at the ends, featuring small white geometric motifs on a dark background, discreetly frame the composition, while the wolf teeth borders on the sides introduce a visually striking graphic rhythm without compromising the striking clarity of the central field.
The balance between solids and voids, color and texture, makes this Soffreh surprisingly contemporary. Its essential aesthetic naturally engages with contemporary interiors, making it an ideal element for interior design projects that emphasize authenticity, natural materials, and historical artifacts.
More than a simple ethnographic textile, this is an object that narrates the culture of Persian nomadism through a visual language of rare modernity.
