This expressive bull, crafted from solid crystal glass, is among the most impressive animal sculptures by renowned glass artist Livio Seguso. with its powerful yet flowing lines and harmonious balance of dynamism and stillness, the sculpture embodies the exceptional design language for which Seguso is internationally acclaimed. The finely nuanced, smoky-gray crystal glass lends the figure a captivating depth and allows light to play dramatically through the sculpted contours. Depending on the viewing angle, ever-changing reflections emerge, strikingly emphasizing the sculptural character of the object.
The powerfully sculpted bull impressively embodies Livio Seguso's distinctive approach to glass as a sculptural material. Such animal sculptures were created both in his own workshop on Murano and as part of his collaboration with Gral Glas in Dürnau during the 1970s. Since the designs from both productions are stylistically very similar, this model is now attributed to both the Murano production and the collaboration with Gral Glas. This close connection makes the sculpture a particularly attractive collector's item and a significant example of post-war European glass art.
Livio Seguso (born 1930 in Murano) is one of the most important Italian glass artists of the 20th century. His work combines the centuries-old tradition of Venetian glass art with a modern, sculptural formal language. His pieces are now found in numerous international museums and important private collections and enjoy the highest acclaim worldwide.
The sculpture is in excellent original condition. The glass shows no damage, chips, or cracks and presents a superbly preserved surface. The polished base bears the incised original signature of Livio Seguso, underscoring the work's authenticity.
