Its enveloping silhouette, formed by the continuous line of the backrest and armrests, recalls 19th-century Biedermeier furniture, here reinterpreted through the cleaner, more restrained vocabulary of Art Deco. The fluted front legs and geometric details of the frame also evoke certain Viennese Secession influences.

The chair retains its period floral cut velvet upholstery. Its rich texture, raised pattern and weight are characteristic of interwar furnishing fabrics and form an integral part of the piece’s charm. The upholstery and upholstery nails also appear to be original or period.

The chair displays a beautiful, honest patina. The oak shows small knocks and marks consistent with age. The textile has several small snags and areas of wear, visible in the photographs, but remains attractive overall. These traces are part of the authenticity of this unrestored piece.

A characterful armchair at the intersection of Biedermeier, Secession and Art Deco influences, valued as much for the softness of its lines as for the richness of its original materials.

Condition

Good original condition, with age-related marks to the wood and small snags to the upholstery.
