Dive into nostalgia with this rare pair of porcelain teacups/breakfast cups by Richard Ginori.
The decoration, attributed to the artistic direction of Giovanni Gariboldi (active from the 1930s to the 1970s), depicts a delightful and ironic childhood scene: children playing with toy soldiers. The brilliance of the design lies in the dialogue between the cup and saucer:
The cup bears the inscription "ATTENTI," with the little soldiers standing at attention.
On the saucer, once the cup is lifted, the inscription "FUOCO" appears, along with the scene of the action.
Crafted in fine earthenware or cream-colored porcelain with a hand-painted blue rim, these cups are a perfect example of mid-20th-century Italian ceramic art. The bottom features the green "Richard Ginori - Made in Italy" mark with the numbers (6607/6104).
