A louis xv-style desk, crafted around 1950 based on the french bureau plat model. The curved cabriole legs, the flowing lines of the frame, and the clearly structured parquet top create a formally cohesive and well-proportioned piece of furniture. Historical context: the desk in the style of the french bureau plat traces its origins back to courtly models of the 18th century and was produced in large numbers in 20th-century france as period furniture. Furniture of this type was an integral part of bourgeois living and working spaces: it served as a prestigious writing surface in the drawing-room, study, or hallway. The combination of flowing lines and solid oak construction represents traditional french furniture production of the post-war period, which continued to cultivate historical design principles through craftsmanship. Features: the top features an oak parquet pattern laid diagonally, framed by a profiled solid wood edge with a curved outline. A glass panel, precisely cut to fit the curved outline of the top, rests on and protects the surface. Design: this piece of furniture follows the design language of louis xv: cabriolet legs with volute feet, a flowing, multi-curved frame, and profiled decorative frames on the two drawer fronts with brass fittings. The two-tone concept—a natural, oiled oak top over a black lacquered frame—creates a contemporary contrast to the historical lines and emphasizes the silhouette of the curved legs. Dimensions: height 78 × width 140 × depth 74 cm. Material and condition: oak, top with oak parquet inlay; brass fittings. The piece has been refurbished by kastellan: the frame has been lacquered black, the top treated appropriately for the material, and a custom-cut glass top has been added. Inspected, cleaned, treated appropriately for the material, structurally checked, and structurally sound.
