This striking Antique Turkish Village Runner, woven in Western Anatolia around 1900, is an excellent example of traditional Anatolian folk artistry. The composition is centered around three large octagonal medallion panels, each enclosing a stylized architectural motif depicting a mosque or ceremonial pavilion, executed in the bold geometric vocabulary that characterizes early Turkish village weaving.
The architectural elements are complemented by decorative floral bouquets and stylized vases scattered throughout the rich coral-red field, creating a balanced composition that combines symbolic imagery with ornamental beauty. A charming floral border of carnations, tulips, and geometric blossoms frames the runner, reflecting the enduring influence of Ottoman decorative design.
Handwoven from hand-spun wool and colored with natural vegetable dyes, the runner displays a warm, mellow palette of coral red, ivory, olive green, soft blue, and chocolate brown that has developed a beautiful patina over more than a century.
The runner remains in good condition with even age-related wear, retaining strong color, crisp drawing, and excellent decorative appeal. Its long proportions and distinctive architectural motifs make it particularly suitable for hallways, galleries, or collectors seeking an authentic Anatolian village weaving with both decorative and historical significance.
This is a handsome and uncommon antique Turkish runner whose bold design, architectural imagery, and warm, time-softened colors make it an attractive and highly collectible example of early Anatolian weaving.
