An exceptional, vintage mid-century hand-pulled woodblock print of Utagawa (Ando) Hiroshige’s absolute masterwork, Shōno: Rainstorm (Shōno hakuu). This piece is Station #46 from the legendary 1833 Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō series and stands globally as one of the most famous compositions in the history of Japanese graphic arts.
• Artistic Details: The print brilliantly captures a sudden, torrential summer downpour catching travelers on a steep mountain pass. Showcases Hiroshige's master use of strong diagonals, featuring palanquin porters sprinting uphill while other travelers hustle down past wind-swept bamboo groves. Replicates the masterful, multi-layered gray ink gradients (bokashi) used to depict the sheets of driving rain.
• Authenticity Markers: Meticulously carved with the original 1833 signature blocks and the dual Hoeidō / Senkakudō publisher cartouches recut into the woodblock design, completed with the red circular "Hakuu" title stamp.
• Framing & Presentation: Professionally displayed under glass behind a vintage sage-green mat featuring traditional Japanese corner cutouts. Housed in its original, minimalist slim black gallery frame.
• Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The contrast between the dark rain lines and the crisp, clean paper is beautifully preserved with zero fading, toning, or foxing.
• Dimensions: 20" W x 14" H x 1" D
An iconic, museum-grade centerpiece that serves as a spectacular focal point for Mid-Century Modern, Japandi, or minimalist gallery wall arrangements. Ready to hang.
