The blacksmith of this beautiful sculpture, Rainer Sieben, born in Eitorf in 1970, sadly passed away in 2007 at the young age of 36. The sculpture is made of wrought iron and forged bronze, making it quite heavy. He signed his artwork with the Roman numeral 7, as he does this piece, on the metal base.
His largest work is the "Gateway to the Siebengebirge" in Königswinter-Ittenbach, which was unveiled to the public in 2006, shortly before his death. Sieben crafted seven arches from five-millimeter-thick special steel. Each arch represents one of the Siebengebirge mountains; the tallest arch, five meters high, represents the Mount of Olives. Rainer Sieben's workshop was located in a hall on the Schoeller grounds in Eitorf, right next to the Markusplatz studios. He regularly participated in the Markusplatz artists' events.
