The composition is centered on a vertical axis but is enlivened by a slight twist of the torso and the tilt of the head, which lend it dynamism and expressive intensity. The figure rests on her knees atop a roughly hewn oval base that serves as a simple support without interfering with the composition’s impact. The anatomy is rendered with remarkable accuracy, highlighting the most exposed parts of the body. The drapery is one of the work’s most refined elements, with the robe slipping off the left shoulder to reveal the breast.
