The Rotterdam-born artist Jacob Akkersdijk painted refined and detailed everyday scenes, often with a touch of humor. He also appears to have had a talent for portraiture, particularly his depictions of textiles. Between 1838 and 1861, he exhibited his work in Amsterdam and The Hague. from 1852, he also taught at the Rotterdam Academy. Akkersdijk's works are included in the collections of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam and the Rotterdam Museum, among others.
