With overall crazing, which is common on this type of pottery and only adds to the character of the piece.The colours remain bright and vibrant. The figurine depicts the famous 19th. century golfer, born in 1851 and who died, aged only twenty four, on Christmas Day 1875. By the age of 21 he had won four consecutive titles in the Open Championship and was the youngest major champion in history, a record that still stands today. The figure would have been used as a spill holder on the mantle piece of a fire grate. It measures 9.5”. x 5.5”. See less
