The necklace is a 1930s Art Deco piece with a gold-tone filigree clasp. Bead knotting is traditionally done with cotton thread, placing a knot between each bead to prevent them from rubbing against each other.

From a website about this timeless style of jewelry: "The Art Deco movement was an extension of the Art Nouveau, focusing on cross-cultural references to develop a style that was named after the 1925 International Exposition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Arts in Paris. This era used geometry that was found in the decorative arts found in different cultures around the world, such as Persia, Greece, India, Japan, China, and the Americas. These cultural references, along with natural, static motifs from Art Nouveau, created a classic style that was all of its own. The cultural referencing found at this time allowed for it to evolve into many styles within itself, and the jewelry and architecture endure today. It lasted until the 1940s."
