A striking hand-knotted square area rug featuring an elaborate Persian-inspired hunting and garden scene. The deep brick-red field is centered by a dramatic midnight-navy medallion and filled with finely rendered animals, birds, floral vines, urns and courtly figures.
Multiple navy and ivory borders frame the composition with additional botanical and animal motifs. The unusually square proportions, highly detailed imagery and rich jewel-toned palette make this an impressive statement piece for a library, formal living room, dining room or large entry.
The rug appears to have a wool pile over a cotton foundation, although the fiber content and country of origin have not been independently verified.
