19th Century Chinese Red Lacquer Wedding Cabinet
A striking antique Chinese wedding cabinet finished in rich red lacquer and decorated throughout with hand-painted Chinoiserie scenes depicting figures, traditional architecture, and landscape motifs accented by original gilt decoration.
Featuring paneled double doors opening to generous interior storage above two lower drawers, the cabinet retains its original brass hardware, hand-painted side panels, and beautifully aged lacquer surfaces that speak to more than a century of careful use.
Unlike restored examples, this cabinet presents with an authentic antique patina, preserving the character collectors and designers seek in period Chinese furniture. The cabinet is one complete unit designed in two sections: the upper cabinet lifts from the lower base for easier transport and installation. When assembled, the two sections form a single substantial statement cabinet with generous interior storage and strong decorative presence. The original lacquer surface shows age-related wear, scattered finish loss, wood separation, shrinkage, and other imperfections consistent with antique construction and long use. These signs of age are visible throughout, particularly on the larger cabinet, while the painted decoration and overall visual impact remain strong.
