This elegant mid-19th century boudoir fluid lamp is attributed to the Boston & Sandwich Glass Company, one of America’s most celebrated early glass manufacturers. Designed for burning camphene or other fluid fuels before the widespread adoption of kerosene, these graceful lamps offered a cleaner, brighter light than earlier whale oil examples. Their refined proportions and sparkling pressed glass bases made them popular fixtures on dressing tables, writing desks, and bedside stands during the mid-Victorian era.
The lamp features a beautifully molded pressed glass base with crisp geometric detailing supporting a slender blown glass font. The contrast between the intricately pressed base and the smooth, delicately formed reservoir creates a sophisticated balance that is characteristic of quality American glass from the period. It retains its original brass collar, adding an authentic finishing touch and making it an attractive display piece whether shown individually or paired with another example.
The lamp is in nice antique condition, consistent with age and normal use. It retains excellent clarity with expected light surface wear and minor imperfections associated with hand-finished 19th-century glass. The original brass collar is present, and the lamp displays beautifully as a decorative object or as part of a collection of early American lighting. 8.5h x 4w x 4d
