This rare 19th-century burial urn originates from the Ryukyu Kingdom and showcases the distinctive craftsmanship of Tsuboya pottery, a tradition rooted in Okinawa’s cultural heritage. Hand-formed from clay with carved geometric and floral motifs, the vessel features a domed lid, pierced base, and textured surface that reflect its ceremonial purpose and artisanal origins.
According to provenance from a Northern Virginia estate auction, this urn was part of a collection acquired in Okinawa in 1979. Its substantial weight and sculptural presence make it a compelling addition to any collection of Asian antiques or ethnographic artifacts.
