Mid to late Nineteenth Century.

Each exquisitely surmounted by a bronze allround mount finely cast depicting children at play below a decorative ormolu mount and a floral finial. The main ovoid formed body ending an acanthus leaf circular base above a turned socle with beaded surround and plain square marble base. Back and front views are similar.

Condition: Good condition for such early pieces with no losses, ormolu mounts have been professionally re-gold plated.

Height: (entire as image one) 11.25″ (28.5cm). Width: (at widest) 5” (12.5cm). Depth: (at marble base) 3.25” (8.5cm).

Giallo Siena Marble: The famous and prestigious yellow marble comes from the quarries of Colle Valle d’Elsa near Siena in Italy. Traditionally it was used almost exclusively for castles and palaces, the Lodges of the Pope etc. Today Giallo Siena is also used in various other ambiences where the golden color gives a touch of luxury and exclusivity, e. g. in hotel suites and bathrooms, for floor patterns and borders as well as columns and fireplaces. During the Grand Tour many souvenirs of this period were adorned extensively with this wonderful and rare Marble. See less
