This striking Antique Turkish Oushak runner, woven around 1890, is an elegant example of late nineteenth-century Anatolian craftsmanship. Its exceptional length and beautifully balanced geometric composition make it an ideal hallway runner while also serving as a highly decorative collector's piece.
The warm soft terracotta field is arranged with a procession of bold, stylized geometric medallions, each displaying distinctive hooked motifs and intricate latch-hook forms characteristic of the finest Oushak village weavings. These medallions are linked along the central axis, creating a rhythmic flow that draws the eye the entire length of the runner.
The spacious composition is enhanced by finely scattered rosettes and small geometric ornaments, while the narrow ivory border is decorated with traditional angular vine and floral motifs that frame the field with understated elegance. The harmonious palette of faded coral, ivory, celadon green, pale turquoise, muted blue, and soft gold has mellowed beautifully over more than a century, giving the runner the highly desirable patina found only in authentic antique examples.
Handwoven entirely of hand-spun wool and dyed with natural vegetable dyes, the runner possesses the supple handle, luminous surface, and graceful age-related softness that distinguish the finest antique Oushak carpets. The weave is sturdy yet refined, making it both practical and visually sophisticated.
Presented in very good condition for its age, the runner retains a healthy pile with beautifully softened colors and only the light, honest wear expected from a well-preserved nineteenth-century weaving. Its impressive length, balanced design, and timeless palette make it equally suitable for traditional interiors or contemporary settings seeking authentic antique character.
An elegant and highly decorative late nineteenth-century Oushak runner, combining exceptional proportions, refined artistry, and enduring craftsmanship.
