An original large-scale acrylic on canvas by the American painter Karen Silve, standing nearly six feet tall. The painting began, in Silve's own account, with bathers and shifting landscape; returning to it after time away, she found the source images had faded in memory and reworked the surface from that vantage of receding recollection — leaving passages unresolved where it felt right and letting a greyish blue-green shift the whole mood from vivid to softly remembered. Some viewers read a floral landscape in it; Silve welcomes every reading, noting how memories fade into one another. She works between Portland, Oregon and Provence, and her abstraction grows out of a direct response to nature and light. Her painting belongs to the lineage of American Abstract Expressionism, near Joan Mitchell and de Kooning, while staying entirely her own. Signed upper right. As a large-format canvas it ships rolled and unstretched for safe transit, ready to stretch or frame on arrival. This piece has an attribution mark,
