Richard Gessner
Painter, draftsman, printmaker.

Studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy
During the First World War, he served as a war artist, among other roles.

from 1918, he continued his studies in Düsseldorf, becoming a master student of Max Clarenbach in 1919.

He undertook numerous study trips to Scandinavia, Italy, North Africa, Bulgaria, and other destinations. Until 1928, he also regularly visited Paris, where he came into contact with Marc Chagall and Jules Pascin.

from 1938, Gessner lived with his wife at Kalkum Castle in Düsseldorf.

In 1944, due to the war, he moved to Berchtesgaden.

In September 1945, he returned to Düsseldorf and resumed his artistic career.

Throughout his life, Gessner participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions.
