An original acrylic on canvas by the American painter Karen Silve, nearly five feet wide and worked edge to edge in gestural color. Broad strokes of sage and emerald, blossom pink, cream and yellow move across the surface, punctuated by deep blue, orange and earthy red, with passages of bare, light ground left to breathe between the marks so the dense surface keeps its air and movement. Silve divides her time between studios in Portland, Oregon and Provence, and her abstraction grows directly out of her response to nature and light — the work is often described as moving between landscape and body without picturing either, so what reaches the canvas is the sensation of a place rather than its likeness. Her painting is placed in the lineage of American Abstract Expressionism, alongside de Kooning and Joan Mitchell, and is held in collections including the U.S. Department of State's Art in Embassies program. Signed upper right. As a large-format canvas it ships rolled, unstretched, for safe transit and can be stretched or framed on arrival. This piece has an attribution mark,
