The Monk chair is one of the most refined expressions of the Scarpa design language, where structure, material, and craftsmanship merge into a perfectly balanced architectural object. Defined by its solid wood frame and suspended leather seat and backrest, the chair embodies a rigorous yet warm aesthetic, rooted in Italian modernism.
The design is characterized by its visible construction: the thick saddle leather is folded and tensioned over the wooden frame, creating both the seat and backrest in a continuous, sculptural gesture. This approach highlights the honesty of materials and construction, a key principle in the work of Afra & Tobia Scarpa.
The contrast between the warm tone of the wood and the natural leather enhances the tactile quality of the piece, while the clean lines and proportions make it suitable for both dining and statement interior settings.
This set has been fully restored in Italy by our workshop and reupholstered in high-quality natural leather, made in Italy. The restoration process has been carried out with great attention to preserving the original character of the design while ensuring durability and comfort.
