Cool passages of pale blue, dove grey, sage and white gather across the upper canvas, then give way lower down to blossom and salmon pink, forest and olive green, and grounding notes of rust, ochre, deep blue and charcoal. Thin runs of pigment drip toward the lower edge, leaving the gesture visible and the surface alive. Silve works between Portland, Oregon and Provence, and her abstraction comes out of a sustained response to nature and light — paintings often read as moving between landscape and body without depicting either, delivering the felt sensation of a place rather than its likeness. Her work sits within the lineage of American Abstract Expressionism, near de Kooning and Joan Mitchell, while remaining wholly her own.
