A watermelon slice and … Read more Original acrylic on wood panel by the Spanish artist Rubén Sánchez, who works also as Zoonchez. A watermelon slice and a blue water-drop sit at the upper left, a hand reaches in from the right to hold a single black-centered sun-flower, a shrimp curls across the lower right, and a white vase of leaves anchors the lower left — all resolved into flat, clean-edged geometry. The palette runs to saturated red, yellow and orange, cooled by sky-blue accents and grounded in black and white, with the bare wood grain left exposed as the ground of the picture. It belongs to Sánchez's Equilibrios Cotidianos ("Everyday Balances") series, in which an everyday tabletop is dissolved into shape and color and kept in an intentional, unsteady balance. Sánchez is self-taught, with roots in graffiti and skateboarding and an open debt to Juan Gris, Léger and Purism. Signed on the reverse; ready to hang.
