An early 20th-century French faience vase, hand-painted and mounted as a table lamp, worked in the rare cashmere palette — … Read more An early 20th-century French faience vase, hand-painted and mounted as a table lamp, worked in the rare cashmere palette — iron red, cobalt, and green over a warm ivory ground. The name is a 19th-century collectors' coinage: the density of these colors reminded them of the Kashmir shawls then prized in Europe. The palette was developed in Delft around 1700 and is tied above all to De Metaale Pot under Lambertus van Eenhoorn; it was costly to produce, flourished briefly, and vanished.

The painted panels hold Chinese scenes drawn from Kangxi famille verte porcelain — a robed figure before a pagoda with a boat beyond, and a long-tailed bird among flowering branches and pierced blue rockwork.

The vase is the work of Georges (Géo) Martel of Desvres, in the Pas-de-Calais, whose factory set out from 1900 to reproduce Delft to the highest standard and sign it with the Delft masters' own marks; the underside carries his scrupulous replica of van Eenhoorn's LVE monogram. The Desvres ceramics museum holds a pair from the same production.

Converted with no alteration to the ceramic, newly wired with a free plug fitted for your country, and paired with a new rose paper drum shade. Listed height includes the shade. This piece has an attribution mark,
