The forms … Read more Original acrylic on wood panel by the Spanish artist Rubén Sánchez, who also works under the name Zoonchez. The forms — a small perched bird, a rounded pear, a vase and bottle of flowers, a citrus wedge, a hand entering from the lower left — are built as flat, clean-edged shapes in cobalt, turquoise, red and orange over graphic black and white. Sánchez leaves the wood grain bare as the ground of the composition, so the panel itself becomes part of the image rather than a surface beneath it. The work belongs to his Equilibrios Cotidianos ("Everyday Balances") series, where a tabletop scene is pushed to the edge of abstraction and held there in deliberate, off-kilter balance. Sánchez, self-taught and rooted in graffiti and skate culture, draws openly on Juan Gris, Léger and Purism. Signed on the reverse; ready to hang.
