Azade köker (born 1949), created during the mid-1970s while she was still a student. The work has been authenticated directly by the artist and represents an unpublished example from the formative years of her artistic practice.

occupying a compelling position between ceramic vessel, autonomous sculpture, and abstract natural form, the work already reveals formal concerns that would later become characteristic of köker's mature oeuvre. Its rounded domed body rises from an irregular, deeply articulated perimeter of folded and eroded forms, creating a dynamic dialogue between mass, void, texture, and light. A small asymmetrical opening at the summit reinforces the object's sculptural rather than functional presence.

executed in stoneware with a restrained matte beige surface and subtle celadon-green glaze accents, the piece evokes geological formations, cellular growth, weathered rock, and botanical structures without directly imitating any specific natural form. The deliberately irregular silhouette transforms continuously as the object is viewed from different angles, rewarding prolonged observation.

although intimate in scale, the sculpture demonstrates a confident understanding of volume and organic abstraction. While distinctly a work of its student period, it already anticipates aspects of the biomorphic language that would later develop into the monumental sculptures, installations, and public works for which köker became internationally recognised.

following extensive provenance research—including consultation with museum specialists, ceramic historians, and the artist's representing gallery—the work was ultimately authenticated directly by prof. Azade köker in written correspondence in 2026.

the artist confirmed that:

* the sculpture was created during the mid-1970s while she was still a student;
* it belongs to her early ceramic production;
* it has never been exhibited.

according to the artist, the work belongs to a group of decorative ceramic objects produced during her student years, preceding the sculptural practice for which she later became internationally known.

a copy of the artist's written authentication (with personal contact details redacted) will accompany the work.

prof. Azade köker is a german-turkish sculptor, installation artist, and painter whose work has been exhibited internationally for more than four decades. Her sculptures and installations investigate transformation, memory, migration, identity, and the relationship between humanity and nature through a distinctive organic visual language. Her works are represented in numerous museum, institutional, and private collections across europe and beyond.

although ceramics constitute only a relatively small chapter within her artistic production, this early sculpture offers valuable insight into the development of ideas that would continue to evolve throughout her later career.
